Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Sullivan was born in and brought up at home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam her mom was a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. When she was five Her father was appointed as City's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. The family then moved into this historic building. In 2005 she graduated from Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts with a major in vocal music. Sullivan performed as a contralto for the youth choir, and several years later, in the adult chorus. Sullivan experienced only a small amount of secular music. She relates that she was singing solo at church when someone offered to sign her up with an evangelical label, however she did not feel ready for this work. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to kids from cities. After that, I was given the chance to perform What God Allows on It's Showtime Apollo. The audience was extremely accommodating." Stevie Wonder sang her part for her son's 13th birthday celebration. Sullivan was signed initially to Jive Records at the age fifteen. When she was 15 the label signed her to Jive Records. She made an whole album at Jive Records, however the album wasn't released. Sullivan was then eliminated at the hands of the company. They had a strong working partnership along with Missy Elliott. Elliott produced several of her songs and tracks, such as "Backstabbers", which was written by Timbaland.
